Whicher Ridge Wines has been named as one of Australia’s Ten Dark Horses in the 2015 James Halliday Wine Companion. With the wine companion officially released on July 29th the winery also received its first five-star rating.
A 5 Star winery rating is awarded to an outstanding winery that is capable of producing wines of very high quality, and a dark horse winery has excelled over the past 12 months and has that little bit extra.
Owners Neil and Cathy Howard are thrilled with the accolade to be named a ‘dark horse’ which recognises outstanding wineries that are often the well kept secrets in the Australian wine industry. “It’s such a wonderful opportunity to have our winery highlighted in James Halliday’s Wine Companion. We received the exciting news after being phoned by a winemaker friend who called to congratulate us, it was a total surprise”.
James Halliday review states, “The quality (and value) of the wines produced by the husband and wife team of viticulturist Neil and winemaker Cathy Howard is quite exceptional. When you factor in their collective 40+ years’ experience, their 7ha estate vineyards, and the purchase of high quality grapes from Frankland River, it begins to make sense. Online purchase is recommended”.
Whicher Ridge is a genuine small wine producer growing and making small quantities of single variety, single vineyard, single region wines. The Whicher Ridge property is located in Chapman Hill, south of Busselton, on the north facing slopes of the Whicher Range.
Whicher Ridge acknowledges the people of the Noongar Land and recognises their connection to culture, community and Country. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present. Whicher Ridge supports the Uluru Statement.
