Booking in for a vineyard stay at your favourite winery is one of the best ways to experience a wine region! It’s a truly immersive experience that gives you a glimpse of what life is really like on a vineyard and making wines from the grapes you grow!

Vineyards and wineries around Australia are very often in beautiful, natural and scenic locations, surrounded by bush, alive with wildlife and birdlife, and star filled skies on a clear night.

Margaret River Region is most definitely a destination which ticks all of these boxes. Not only can you spend time on the coast and in the bush, but you can also savour the local food and wines at the source of where they are grown and made.

What Makes a Vineyard Stay Special?

A vineyard stay gives you the opportunity to reconnect with nature away from the crowds at a larger accommodation place, and experience for a few days the peace and tranquility that is rural life.

There is also no better place to see stars and the immensity of the milky way which you see once you are far away from the city lights!

The Margaret River Region offers visitors a wide range of vineyard and farm stay accommodation, but there are a 3 seriously special stand-outs which are all slightly different.

If you are interested in wines and would like to learn more about how they are grown and made, then a vineyard stay at one of these 3 small family owned wineries in the South West of Western Australia should be on your “must do” list.

The vineyard stays are all located at small, family owned wineries. Each wine growing family is passionate about where they live, how they grow their vines and how they sustainably farm their land. These same philosophies flow through to how they make their wines, small batch wines made on the farm, next to the vineyard where the grapes are grown.

For the 3 families, a common reason for offering vineyard stays on their farms is to share where they live and work with others, to get people a little more connected to nature and to where the things they eat and drink come from.

Guests experience waking up overlooking vines, the bush, with mobs of grazing kangaroos and livestock moving across the farm land. What better way is there to end a day of sightseeing in the Margaret River Region, than enjoying a glass of wine grown and made where you are staying.

Staying at a vineyard also has the huge bonus for any wine and food lover, that there are wine and food experiences literally right on your doorstep, within walking distance!

Each of the 3 vineyard stay offer guests wine and farm experiences during their stay. These range from wine tastings, to guided tours and tastings, picnics and platters, and food and wine pairing experiences.

The 3 vineyard stays that we think are rather special are Heyscape at Whicher Ridge Wines, Petit Eco Cabin at Windows Estate, and the Bungalows at Burnside Organic Farm.

Vineyard Stay in a Tiny Cabin

The Heyscape South West Tiny Cabins are at our vineyard, 20 kms south of Busselton. Managed by Heyscape, there are 3 tiny eco-friendly cabins on our farm which are all off grid, with spacious bathrooms and a minimalistic but very functional living and sleeping area for guests.

There is a huge feature window at one end, and the cabin is positioned to make the most of the rural vistas. There are outdoor fire pits in Winter, and hammocks for lazing in during a warm summer’s day.

The Edith cabin is located right next to the Cabernet Sauvignon block, with a fern lined creek line on the other side. Joey is a cabin which sleeps up to 4 people and is set up in a spot with a large area of native bush to the rear and an expansive view of the vineyard to the front of the cabin. Flynn, is set away from the vines adjacent to a small dam, overlooking rolling pastures, perfect for roo spotting!

Guests can book in for a range of wine experiences including private wine tastings and guided tours of the Wine Sensory Garden.

Vineyard Stay at Windows Estate Petit Eco Cabin

Vineyard Stay in an Eco Friendly Timber Cabin

The Windows Estate, Petit Eco Cabin is also relatively new. The cabin is located at the Windows Estate vineyard and winery in Yallingup, 16 kms south of Dunsborough. It is also eco-friendly and was 3 years in the making. It is a timber cabin, designed by a local architect, and fitted out with bespoke fixtures, fittings and furnishings all made in Australia.

The cabin is located in a semi-bushland setting with views of the vineyard out of the front. There is a vintage outdoor bath and shower, day bed both inside and out, and for winter a cosy fireplace complete with a bakers oven.

Guests can book in for a number of wine experiences, including a vineyard and farm tour, and a cheese and wine pairing experience.

Vineyard Stay in a Bungalow

Burnside Organic Farm and Bungalows are located 7 kms south of Cowaramup. There are vineyards, an avocado orchard, caper plantation, bee hives and a market garden on the 15 hectare farm.

There are 2 bungalows for guests to stay in, each offering a modern kitchen, spacious rooms, an indoor bath in one, and stone outdoor bath in the other, indoor wood fires, outdoor entertaining areas, and views from every room.

Guests can take themselves on a self guided farm walk, visit the kitchen garden, or book in for a wine tasting.
